Action to be taken by Maharashtra minorities’ panel on 'No Muslims' flat sale ad

'No Muslims' flat sale ad
The ‘no Muslim’ ad placed on 99 acres.com have created quite a buzz in media and political circles. The ad was posted by a Mumbai broker, Jacintha Real estate for the sale of a flat, it stated ‘Excellent brand new 2BHK fully furnished flat with cross ventilation, natural light. Cosmopolitan society, no Muslims, with car parking on immediate sale, fifth floor, interested please call’. The Maharashtra State Minorities Commission Munaf Hakim has promised to take actions against the broker who has posted the advertisement. He mentions that this discrimination is not new against minorities in the housing sector and action will be taken after speaking to concerned authorities.

Wajahat Habibullah, Chairperson of National Minorities Commission further adds that they are examining the ad placed on the portal. The ad talks about all the facilities provided in the apartment with a ‘no Muslim’ tag. He says that the ad is highly offensive to Muslims.

The portal 99 acres.com is saying that they cannot be held responsible for the ads published on their site, and they are against such discriminatory practices. Loads of ads are published directly by the advertisers on the site using the self-service online interface and they are deeply embarrassed by the way the site has been misused.
When visited the flat in Dadar, the reporting team was told that the building is strictly accommodated by vegetarians and hence flats were not sold to Muslims.
